Fresh Exchange

The Fresh Exchange at Aurora's Farmers Market helps to fill the gap and get more farm-direct produce into the hands of our low income neighbors. The goal is to make healthy food available, accessible and affordable to all our citizens. Fresh Exchange provides LINK patrons up to a $25* dollar BONUS, helping their benefit dollars go further and to enjoy the best local produce and artisan products available. Sponsorship opportunities are available to help fund this important program. Visit the Information Booth for more details. (*Based on available funding)

Power of Produce

The Power of Produce (POP) Club provides a fun opportunity for children to engage in the local food system through conversations directly with farmers, educational games and demonstrations, and exposure to new fruits and vegetables. In addition to participating in educational activities, POP Club kids receive vouchers to spend at the market, allowing them to make their own shopping decisions at the market. Visit the Information Booth for more details.

FreshFirst is an innovative program at Aurora's Farmers Market. It is managed in partnership with VNA Health Care and funded through a grant. FreshFirst is designed to provide assistance to overweight and obese children, young mothers and families who are at risk of developing diet-related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Fruit and vegetable prescriptions are distributed by a registered dietitian and a diabetes educator at VNA Health Care and redeemed at Aurora's Farmers Market for fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. Through VNA Health Care led education, a meal log, monitoring and family support, participants are expected to alter their current dietary habits with an increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables resulting in improved health. Additionally each dollar of the FreshFirst program benefits the Aurora community in three ways: by nourishing the consumer, boosting farmers' revenue and supporting the overall health of our community.
